How do your products represent social groups or issues?

My short film has three characters. The characterisation in the short film is not limited, the names of the characters are known to the audience but not too deep into depths. My short film does briefly illustrate the problems faced by the main character. The main obstacle the character faces is to escape being kidnapped while on vacation in a foreign place that is unfamiliar. At its core, the abduction of a child evokes universal fears and concerns shared across communities worldwide. It boldly highlights the vulnerabilities individuals, especially children, face when navigating unfamiliar environments, emphasizing the importance of safety precautions and vigilance. The incident in my short film prompts discussions on the responsibilities of travel not traveling alone and the help of  local authorities in ensuring the security of tourists, shedding light on potential gaps in safety protocols and emergency response systems. The media coverage surrounding the kidnapping amplifies public awareness and mobilizes efforts for the victim's rescue, illustrating the influential role of mass communication in shaping societal responses to crises. From a psychological perspective, the trauma inflicted upon the girl and her family reverberates through support networks, prompting conversations about post-traumatic stress, resilience, and the need for better approaches in the future. Ultimately, the abduction serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities inherent in global travel and underscores the collective responsibility to prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their location or circumstances. My film can be a subject that may relate to people all over the world. It is important to highlight it and learn the ways to prevent such situations from happening to children all over. Many social groups can relate and build upon light to help bring this issue to an end by the help of my product.

How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?

Branding helps to make a product different from other products. There are some aspects in my short film that make it different from other short films, thus creating a sense of ‘branding’. First and foremost, my short film dives into the terrifying ordeal of a young girl being kidnapped while going on vacation, aiming to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of child abductions. By portraying a relatable scenario in a foreign setting, the film strikes a chord with audiences, evoking empathy and prompting viewers to confront the harsh realities faced by vulnerable individuals, particularly children, in unfamiliar environments. Through a gripping narrative, the film sheds light on the psychological and emotional trauma inflicted upon both the victim and her family, compelling viewers to contemplate the far-reaching consequences of such crimes. One of the unique aspects of the film lies in its ability to create a sense of branding through its powerful storytelling and emotive visuals. By crafting a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences on a personal level, the film establishes a distinct identity that sets it apart from conventional forms of media. Rather than simply presenting facts or statistics, the film immerses viewers in the visceral experience of the protagonist, fostering a deeper connection and prompting lasting reflection. My film also leverages the emotive power of cinema to transcend language and cultural barriers, making it accessible to diverse audiences around the globe. Through its universal themes of fear, resilience, and the enduring bond of family, the film transcends traditional boundaries, fostering a sense of solidarity and collective responsibility in addressing the issue of child kidnappings. In essence, my short film serves as a reminder of the urgent need to combat child abductions and protect the most vulnerable members of society. Through its innovative storytelling and emotive impact, the film leaves a lasting impression on viewers, inspiring them to take action and make a difference in the fight against this.

How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

Research played a crucial role in informing the creation of my short film, which centers around the story of a young girl being kidnapped on vacation and her subsequent struggle to escape. Through extensive research into real-life accounts, psychological studies, and societal perceptions surrounding child abductions, I gained valuable insights that shaped both the narrative and entertaining elements of the film. By diving into the distressing experiences of victims and their families, I was able to capture the emotional complexity of such traumatic events, ensuring that the portrayal remained authentic and respectful. Furthermore,my  research into existing media representations of kidnappings allowed me to identify common conventions and stereotypes prevalent in mainstream storytelling. Armed with this knowledge, I sought to challenge these conventions within my film, subverting expectations and offering a fresh perspective on the subject matter. Rather than sensationalizing the crime for shock value, I aimed to present a nuanced exploration that prioritized empathy and understanding, while still delivering suspenseful entertainment. One of the key ways in which my film challenges conventions is by portraying the victim as a resilient and resourceful character who actively fights for her own survival. Instead of passively awaiting rescue, she takes agency over her circumstances, using her own strength and courage to navigate the perilous situation. This departure from traditional portrayals of helpless victims not only empowers the character but also challenges societal perceptions of victimhood and resilience. Additionally, my film uses suspenseful storytelling techniques to engage the audience while shedding light on the broader issues surrounding child abductions. By crafting tension-filled sequences and unexpected twists, I aimed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats while also prompting them to reflect on the harsh realities faced by victims and the urgent need for awareness and action. In full, my research played a vital role in informing the creation of my short film, guiding the narrative direction and thematic exploration. By drawing from real-life accounts and challenging conventional storytelling conventions, my film aims to spark important conversations about empathy, resilience, and the collective responsibility to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
